Job Description: Health and Nutrition Officer

Child Safeguarding

Level 3: The postholder will have frequent or intensive contact with children and/or young people due to their role in country programs or responsibilities related to implementing the police checking/vetting process for staff.

Role Purpose

The Health and Nutrition (H&N) Officer will support the implementation of GFFOs projects and enhance the capacity of project staff by providing technical support, conducting health and nutrition training, and performing supportive supervision visits to project sites. The post holder will assist the H&N Program Coordinator in the successful implementation of the project.

Scope of Role

·       Reports to: H&N Project Coordinator

·       Staff Reporting to this Post: None

·       Budget Responsibilities: N/A

·       Role Dimensions: Collaborate with Program Managers, Program Coordinators, Project Coordinators, MEAL Officers, Logistics, Fleet, Admin, HR, and Finance teams.

Key Areas of Accountability

Implementation

·       Support the H&N Project Coordinator in the day-to-day implementation of IMHNTs and project activities.

·       Collect and analyze weekly and monthly reports from the provincial team, providing constructive feedback for program improvement.

·       Conduct 50% field visits to project sites to engage with beneficiaries and community leaders, ensuring project effectiveness and community involvement in decision-making.

·       Assist in training needs assessments and prepare for trainings outlined in the TNA for Mobile Health and Nutrition team staff.

·       Oversee procurement and recruitment processes in collaboration with relevant departments to ensure timely staffing and procurement for the project.

·       Attend procurement committee meetings at the CO office to represent the H&N department.

·       Provide joint supportive supervision to project sites and conduct regular monitoring of project activities with the Health Specialist and PDQ staff.

·       Work closely with the supply chain team to ensure timely procurement and dispatch of project-related items to targeted provinces.

·       Periodically check data entry in the nutrition online database with the field team to ensure quality and consistency of reports.

·       Compile and generate training reports conducted in provinces.

·       Collaborate with Save the Children program teams to develop materials on child rights, protection, participation, health education, and environmental protection.

·       Perform any other relevant tasks as assigned by the line manager.

Child Safeguarding

·       Ensure all beneficiaries receive ongoing, age-appropriate information about Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.

·       Report any Child Safeguarding and/or PSEA cases encountered.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

·       Medical Degree (MD)

Experience and Skills

Essential

·       Graduated from a recognized medical faculty with four years of experience in health and nutrition project management.

·       Familiarity with HMIS/Nutrition online databases of MoPH is an asset.

·       Strong project management skills, including basic administration and management.

·       Experience in health and nutrition training delivery.

·       Understanding of project cycle management, especially M&E processes and reporting.

·       Relevant experience in humanitarian response, particularly in emergency settings, with a background in the INGO sector.

Desirable

·       Efficiency, result-oriented, and excellent management and training capabilities.

·       Capacity to perform effectively under pressure and handle sensitive issues responsibly.

·       Excellent capacity development and teamwork skills, with cross-cultural and gender sensitivity.

Additional Job Responsibilities

·       Duties are not exhaustive; the post holder may be required to undertake additional reasonable tasks.

·       In emergencies, the post holder may need to work outside their normal job description and hours.
