Job Description
Position: Midwife
The Midwife is responsible for providing reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health (RMNCH) services, including antenatal and postnatal care, family planning consultations, and treatment for acute malnutrition in pregnant and lactating women (PLW). This role involves direct patient care, education, and coordination of health services.
Key Responsibilities
Objective 1: RMNCH Services
· Antenatal Care:
- Identify patient care requirements and ensure their needs are met.
- Explain medical procedures to patients while coordinating with the Rapid Response Team (RRT).
- Perform history taking and physical examinations.
- Provide basic treatments and manage medicine dispensing.
- Refer patients with complications for advanced treatment as needed.
- Supply iron and folic acid supplements and check for tetanus vaccination.
- Record necessary information in reporting tools.
· Postnatal Care:
- Define postpartum care and perform physical exams.
- Provide basic health messages and treatments.
- Continue iron and folic acid supplements for up to three months post-delivery.
- Assess for referrals if complications arise and maintain accurate records.
· Family Planning:
- Counsel clients on family planning methods and provide prescriptions.
- Maintain documentation of consultations.
Objective 2: Treatment for Acute Malnourished PLW
- Screen all PLWs visiting MHT services and classify their nutritional status.
- Provide nutritional treatment according to approved protocols.
- Manage admissions and ensure follow-up for beneficiaries.
- Refer severely malnourished individuals with complications to higher health facilities.
- Validate discharge conditions and provide health education on nutrition and hygiene.
Objective 3: Infant Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Services
- Conduct one-on-one counseling for pregnant and lactating women on IYCF practices.
- Organize group sessions on key messages related to the first 1000 days of life.
- Refer patients to appropriate services based on their needs.
Objective 4: Preparation of Materials, Reporting, and Documentation
- Ensure all materials and equipment are prepared and functional before field visits.
- Maintain cleanliness and security of equipment during and after visits.
- Update reporting tools daily and maintain a good filing system.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required.
- Assist supervisors with other assigned duties.
Job Requirements
- Education: Graduate Midwife from a recognized institute.
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in midwifery programs.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational skills.
- Fluent in Dari and Pashto; some English is a plus.
- High flexibility to travel within the province.
- Knowledge of local communities and locations is advantageous.
