Job Summary

The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and monitoring of projects within the Health and Protection sector. This position entails managing resources, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality results that align with organizational objectives and sector-specific standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

Project Planning and Design

  • Create comprehensive project plans that outline objectives, timelines, budgets, and deliverables in line with organizational goals and donor expectations.
  • Conduct needs assessments, in collaboration with the MEAL department, to identify critical health and protection challenges within the target area/population.
  • Work with subject matter experts to design effective interventions, focusing on public health, child protection, gender-based violence (GBV), and mental health support.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies during the planning phase.
  • Establish a monthly follow-up plan to manage the project budget and report any overspending or underspending to the finance department regularly.
  • Monitor project progress on a monthly basis and provide constructive feedback to the technical program staff.

Project Implementation

  • Coordinate and oversee project activities, ensuring timely execution within budget constraints.
  • Supervise field teams, healthcare personnel, and protection staff, offering guidance and support as necessary.
  • Provide feedback to health and protection staff and develop follow-up action plans to enhance project activity implementation.
  • Ensure the integration of cross-cutting themes such as gender equity, disability inclusion, and sustainability into all project activities.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, government agencies, NGOs, and community leaders.
  • Act as the primary contact for project partners and beneficiaries.
  • Organize stakeholder meetings to communicate project progress and address challenges effectively.
  • Oversee the implementation of local partner activities at both provincial and regional levels.
  • Participate in monthly coordination meetings with partners across the country.

Resource Management

  • Manage project budgets, ensuring appropriate resource allocation and compliance with financial policies.
  • Procure necessary goods and services for project execution, adhering to transparent and ethical procurement practices.
  • Recruit, train, and manage project staff to ensure high team performance.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare detailed progress reports for both internal and external stakeholders, including donors.
  • Document best practices, case studies, and lessons learned to inform future projects.
  • Ensure all project documentation is organized and accessible for audits and evaluations.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Development Studies, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Experience:

  • Over 7 years of project management experience in the Health and Protection sector, particularly in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Proven track record in managing projects related to healthcare delivery (including managing Basic Health Centers and mobile health teams) and protection programs (general protection, child protection) or mental health and psychosocial support.

Skills:

  • Strong project management capabilities, including proficiency in tools such as MS Project, Trello, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with donor compliance requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical skills for risk assessment, budget management, and monitoring & evaluation (M&E).
  • Knowledge of local laws, policies, and best practices in health and protection.
