Fine Arts
The field of Fine Arts is one of the most appealing disciplines in the world, but it has faced many challenges in Afghanistan due to internal conflicts. Fortunately, in the last decade, art has been able to establish its place. Art is a phenomenon through which we can convey important and essential messages to society. Artists, especially through visual media and exhibitions, can communicate their messages to the public, thereby raising awareness and bringing progress and change to their daily lives. Kabul University is a prestigious academic institution in Afghanistan, renowned for its academic and artistic standing in our beloved country. This field is divided into the following departments:
Painting
This section creates a space where each creative student can discover their unique world of creativity, according to their abilities, tastes, knowledge, and mindset. As a result, they can create works that transform themselves and, subsequently, their communities. A student in the painting department learns to observe well, analyze, expand their knowledge, and express what they have learned on various levels. Therefore, if a candidate for the entrance exam lacks artistic talent and inclination, they will only acquire information upon entering the painting department without achieving meaningful results.
Cinema
This section is referred to as the seventh art due to its captivating appeal and remarkable advancements. Cinema presents a collection of images and sounds while adhering to specific principles to convey a particular thought to the audience.
Music
The music department is one of the most popular artistic fields among art enthusiasts. This section is entirely dependent on an individual's abilities and interests, and many people also engage in music through free training courses.
Theater
Theater is a Greek word meaning "that which is looked at." In Persian, theater is referred to as "namayesh" or "tamasha," and it is a branch of performing arts that involves presenting stories to audiences and spectators. The primary goal of the theater department is to cultivate young, educated individuals in fields such as television and radio theater and cinema.
Sculpture
Sculpture is a journey—from daily life to feelings and thoughts, towards beauty and, most importantly, towards dialogue between different civilizations, cultures, and ideas. Each sculpture represents a thought, civilization, and culture, sometimes speaking to humanity from centuries past. This indicates that the art of sculpture is a suitable means to express and promote human culture and thought. The sculpture department aims to academically teach this art to students. After general studies, including painting, photography, and an introduction to design and color, students study specialized courses that include design in sculpture, familiarity with museums and sculpture workshops, ceramics, and coin design and production. In this field, students initially learn the basics of sculpture and, later, gain an understanding of nature, learning how to draw inspiration from it for their sculptures. They then refine and combine these inspirations into new materials.
Necessary Skills for Sculptors:
- Students must have a passion for this art.
- They should have a good understanding of design.

Graphic design is a visual language, utilizing symbols, lines, curves, and colors to convey a world of meaning. This artistic field is globally accepted and of particular importance, allowing students to engage in advertising through posters, illustrations, logo creation, calendars, book covers, magazine layouts, and packaging design.
Necessary Skills for Graphic Designers:
- They should have artistic vision.

Photography
Photography is one of the branches of fine arts, attracting a large number of candidates interested in this field. Initially, the depiction of images on cave walls marked one of the earliest forms of visual communication in human life. Although humans had also created designs on objects and vessels prior to that, modern living has significantly advanced visual communication, leading to the rapid evolution of graphic art. In various artistic activities, photography has sometimes followed a hybrid path and sometimes an independent one, establishing its place in the arts and in the job market within the country’s development programs.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of this field can work in the academic staff of the Faculty of Fine Arts, manage art and graphics in national television, and work in arts high schools, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Information and Culture.
