Job Description: Community-Based Rehabilitation Worker (CBRW)

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • House-to-House Surveys:
    Conduct surveys of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) within the target area in a village-based approach.
  • Needs Assessment:
    Assess the needs of PWD with assistance from Physiotherapy, Special Education, and Employment Support sections. Prepare rehabilitation intervention plans and select training materials.
  • CBR Strategy Implementation:
    Act as the first referral source for the implementation of the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) strategy.
  • Self-Help Groups (SHGs):
    Assist the SHG Focal Point in establishing SHGs.
  • Resource Mobilization:
    Identify and mobilize local resources for effective CBR strategy implementation.
  • Awareness Raising:
    Facilitate sessions to raise awareness among social trainers in the community about disabilities and prevention.
  • Rehabilitation Visits:
    Visit homes to assist in the rehabilitation process of children and adults with disabilities, including those with hearing and visual impairments.
  • School Inclusion:
    Facilitate the inclusion of children with disabilities in schools after preparatory education.
  • Vocational Skills Training:
    Introduce PWD to vocational skills training and loan schemes through NAC employment support and other organizations.
  • Loan Assistance:
    Assist PWD in filling out revolving loan application forms and collect loan installments.
  • Publication Distribution:
    Distribute publications such as "Ability" in all villages, schools, and health centers in the area.
  • Article Writing Assistance:
    Assist DIP Information Officers in writing articles and life stories of PWD.
  • Technical Assistance:
    Provide technical assistance to Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in identifying PWD.
  • Referral Services:
    Refer needy PWD to rehabilitation resources inside and outside of DIP.
  • Community Engagement:
    Actively participate in promoting understanding and acceptance of DP projects and NAC initiatives within local communities.
  • Coordination Meetings:
    Attend coordination meetings with other organizations as requested by the CBR Senior Supervisor or CBR Officer.
  • Supervision:
    Supervise daily activities of community volunteers and family trainers, ensuring effective rehabilitation processes.
  • Data Collection:
    Collect data on DP activities at the district level and report to the relevant officer monthly or quarterly.
  • Other Duties:
    Perform any other job-related tasks assigned by the DP Project Manager or CBR Senior Supervisor.

Job Requirements

Languages Required:

  • Dari, Pashto, or Uzbeki

Qualifications:

  • At least a high school graduate; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in field activities or similar organizations. Experience in village surveys, community mobilization, or working with community members is essential. Experience in disability organizations is an advantage.

Skills Required:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with diverse rural communities.
  • Interest in developing community participatory approaches and addressing disability issues.
  • Ability to take initiative and work proactively with minimal supervision.
  • Honest, active, and well-mannered demeanor.
  • Capability to support colleagues and provide/receive constructive feedback.
