Job Summary

The Spin Bowling Coach will support the HPC in identifying and delivering key spin bowling objectives, resulting in the preparation of the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s spin bowling talent. The International Spin Bowling Coach will directly report to the HPC Manager.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Strategic Development:
    • Work with the HPC to develop a clear and compelling strategy for Afghanistan Cricket’s professional spin bowling unit.
  • Specialist Coaching Support:
    • Provide relevant specialist bowling coaching support to ACB players.
  • Coaching Program Delivery:
    • Assist the HPC with the delivery of coaching programs for training preparation and playing, both on and off the field, for the players.
  • Match Preparation Assistance:
    • Travel with the team squad to matches to assist the HPC with match preparations.
  • Specialist Programs:
    • Prepare and deliver specialist spin bowling programs for Afghanistan Cricket Board players.
  • Performance Analysis Support:
    • Assist the Performance Analyst with the scouting of opposition:
      • Conduct detailed analysis of each opposition batting.
      • Create generic spin bowling plans for the team per batter.
      • Develop individual spin bowling plans per batter.
      • Present findings to the team if required.
      • Discuss opposition batsmen with ACB spin bowlers.
  • One-on-One Coaching:
    • Structure and coach one-on-one sessions with players.
  • Collaboration with Coaches:
    • Develop positive working relationships and collaborate closely with other cricket coaches.
  • Drill Coaching and Warm-Up Support:
    • Provide spin bowling drill coaching and warm-up support during training sessions and on match days.
  • Talent Identification:
    • Assist the HPC in identifying talented young spin bowlers.
  • Safe Bowling Practices:
    • Apply safe bowling practices and identify risk factors to minimize for spin bowlers.
  • Strength and Conditioning Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the Strength and Conditioning Coach and Physiotherapist to apply appropriate principles relevant to safe spin bowling.
  • Consistent Coaching Methods:
    • Support and advise the HPC to ensure consistent spin bowling coaching methods are deployed throughout training, courses, workshops, and sessions.
  • Mentorship:
    • Act as a mentor for promising talented spin bowling players.
  • Performance Support Staff Collaboration:
    • Establish a close working relationship with performance support staff (Performance Analyst, Physiotherapist, Strength and Conditioning Coach).
  • Off-Season Coaching Availability:
    • Be available to provide coaching to players who require off-season assistance.
  • Skills Development:
    • Develop and train spin bowlers in skills, tactics, and strategies for various formats (T20, One-Day, and Test cricket).
  • Effective Communication:
    • Ensure regular communication with coaches, players, and HPC.
  • Additional Tasks:
    • Perform any other tasks assigned by the line supervisor.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Level 4 Specialist Spin Bowling Coach or Level 3 with the ambition to embark on the Specialist Coaching Program.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in coaching at the international level.
  • The duty station will be the ACB main office in Kabul, with potential travel to provinces in Afghanistan.

Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of all facets of the game of cricket.
  • A wide-ranging cricket network.
  • Innovative thinker with the ambition to deliver the best spin bowling program in cricket.
  • Excellent communication skills and a flexible attitude towards working with players.
  • Understanding of various coaching styles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with players and coaches.
  • Experience in setting up and delivering coaching programs.
  • Capable of preparing training programs to meet the needs of each player.

Afghanistan has its National Cricket Teams playing among top 10 cricketing countries of the world.
