About Borlaug Institute

 

The Borlaug Institute, affiliated with Texas A&M University System (TAMUS), leads international food security and agricultural development initiatives. Named in honor of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Dr. Norman Borlaug, the Institute continues his legacy by advancing global food security, livelihoods, and resilience through applied agricultural science, research, and extension. Its mission is to uplift small-holder farmers from poverty and hunger through agricultural innovation.

Project Background

The Norman Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture and Development has secured a fund from USAID to implement the Young Women Lead (YWL) program from September 28, 2023, to September 27, 2025. This program aims to empower young Afghan women to successfully complete short tertiary trainings and professional development programs, equipping them with skills and connections vital for pursuing careers in Afghanistan. Additionally, it fosters a supportive, inclusive environment, promoting collaboration and peer-to-peer learning among participants.
