The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative (FAOR) or Deputy FAO Representative (DFAOR) in Afghanistan. S/he will work under the direct supervision of the Field Security Officer and the overall guidance of the Security Specialist. The direct supervisor, or as assigned, will be responsible for all day-to-day supervision, technical guidance, and performance evaluation.
Technical Focus
Provision of security services to the FAO premises.
Duties & Responsibilities
Fleet Management:
- Patrol and maintain security of office premises and grounds, including overnight guard duties as required; report any irregularities.
- Control access by properly checking visitors' identity cards.
- Respond to emergencies affecting the safety of the premises and notify the direct supervisor.
- Open and close the office building during working hours.
- Ensure all office equipment, lights, etc., are working properly and turn them off after working hours.
- Attend radio calls, take messages, and keep track of all road missions.
- Keep a record of incoming/outgoing messages.
- Maintain communications with field missions.
- Update directives and security personnel lists.
- Assist in ensuring that all VHF and HF radios are in good working condition.
- Liaise daily with LSA/Security unit regarding radio room activities.
- Liaise as necessary with the Head of Regional Office, Local Security Assistant, DfPS (if deployed to the office), police authorities, fire service, and other emergency services.
- Report for duty as necessary (on call).
- Receive incoming documents with safety measures and examine them carefully when necessary using a metal detector.
- Receive visitors and incoming telephone calls, ensuring that correct messages are taken and delivered to the appropriate staff member.
- Ensure that security guidelines and recommendations are being properly followed by staff.
- Perform any other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of a Secondary School Qualification.
- A minimum of four (4) years relevant work experience with the UN or an International Organization.
- Limited knowledge of English (intermediate level B, both spoken and written).
- Excellent knowledge of local languages (Pashto and Dari), both spoken and written.
- National of Afghanistan.

Technical/Functional Skills
- Good knowledge of premise security requirements and procedures.
- Familiar with the use of various security screening equipment and applicable procedures.
- Ability to remain calm and effectively manage and respond during emergency situations/security incidents.
- Strong understanding and familiarity with the local context, including awareness of the relevant security situation.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relations with staff/colleagues from different cultural backgrounds and with relevant counterparts.
