Job Description
Position: TFU Head Nurse
Nutrition rehabilitation among admitted cases through treatment of clinical complications of severe acute malnutrition and prevention of further deterioration of the nutritional situation through the provision of therapeutic feeds, routine and specialized medicines, health and nutrition counseling, capacity building, and technical support to the TFU and pediatric unit in the management of complications associated with severe acute malnutrition.
Responsibilities:
Ensure the Provision of High-Quality Medical and Nutritional Care in the TFU:
- Understand and apply the TFU admission criteria.
- Carry out daily rounds in the TFU.
- Conduct clinical examinations of patients daily to determine any changes in their clinical status.
- Perform appropriate and available investigations that may adjust diagnosis.
- Prescribe medications and therapeutic foods according to patients’ diagnosis, age, and weight, being aware of possible drug interactions.
- Ensure timely consultation and/or referral for complex medical cases requiring higher medical support.
- Re-evaluate critical patients regularly during the day and night.
- Carry out the admission visit, prioritize emergencies, take a comprehensive history, and perform clinical examinations, medical, and nutritional prescriptions.
Supervise the TFU and Provide On-the-Job Support to the TFU Nurses:
- Ensure that protocols are strictly followed and implemented.
- Provide technical training to the team and new staff upon arrival regarding the management of severe malnutrition with complications.
- Ensure implementation of activities linked to care practices.
- Collect orders for the TFU, check them prior to transmitting them to the medical supervisor.
- Collect and cross-check weekly and monthly statistics data.
- Computerize the data in the absence of the data entry clerk.
- Draft weekly and monthly reports for the TFU program.
- Be responsible for the material used.
- Ensure the follow-up of medicine consumption during the inpatient phase, drawing up an order with the supervisor if needed.
- In collaboration with the pharmacist, support the management of consumables and medicines.
Team Management:
- Draw up work schedules for the TFU nurses and assistants.
- Update the personnel register.
- Conduct regular assessment interviews with team members.
- Organize training for the project team.
- Organize monthly meetings with the team.
- Identify issues in the event of problems and seek solutions or refer them to management.
- Verify the manner in which the team interacts with beneficiaries and assistants.
- Organize weekly meetings with the team.
- Monitor absences, late arrivals, and/or leaves and report them to the medical supervisor.
- Perform other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements
- Education: Graduated from nursing, pharmacy/pharmacy technician course, Community Nursing Education Program, and/or has a nutrition diploma from a recognized institute. IPD SAM training.
- Experience: The candidate must have at least one to two years of relevant work experience in BPHS-related health facilities, especially in TFU.
- Language Skills: Fluency in spoken and written Dari and Pashto is a requirement. Experience in TFU is a plus.
The incumbent of this position will work as the TFU Head Nurse and will manage nurses, nurse assistants, nutrition counselors, and PSS counselors.
