Job Summary

The BSS Engineer is responsible for assisting the BSS engineering team with the overall operations and maintenance (O&M), configuration management (CM), and rollout projects of the Radio Access Network.

Duties & Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

  • Installation and Commissioning:
    • Install and commission the HUAWEI BSC/RNC.
    • Install and integrate Huawei BTS/Node B/eNode B systems for the region.
  • Operation and Maintenance:
    • Conduct regular operation and maintenance including alarm checking, clearing, critical alarm reporting, hardware and cable fault detection, and troubleshooting as per guidelines.
    • Integrate new TRX/cells/sectors for BTS/NodeB/eNodeB.
    • Add new boards as per directives in BSC/RNC/BTS/NodeB and eNodeB.
    • Manage migration activities of BTS, NodeB, and eNodeB.
    • Perform maintenance work on different interfaces on BTS/BSC/RNC and eNodeB.
    • Check the load of different nodes/boards and report to managers.
    • Prepare databases for BSS back-office operations.
    • Coordinate field activities with other departments.
    • Monitor and activate licenses for NodeB and eNodeB.
    • Implement RF requests as per guidelines.
    • Troubleshoot issues according to instructions from BSS managers.
    • Carry out preventive maintenance work in a timely manner.
    • Handle spare and faulty equipment.
    • Prepare reports on faulty equipment returned from sites and submit them to the concerned department.

Supervisory Tasks (if required)

  • Supervise and instruct BSS technicians for the installation of BSS equipment on sites.
  • Instruct the rigger team on fault isolation and preventive maintenance.
  • Monitor and rectify physical alarms while visiting HUB and cell sites.

Technical Tasks

  • Manage BTS installation projects on-site.
  • Handle BTS software and LMT software for local maintenance.
  • Configure and implement various BTS topologies according to the plan.
  • Monitor and analyze alarms.
  • Isolate and rectify faults of BTS, power rack, battery bank, and DDF.
  • Integrate external/environmental alarm monitoring devices with BTS/BSC.
  • Manage swapping activities from one product to another.
  • Respond to customer complaints about various locations.
  • Interact with NOC engineers to provide technical solutions for alarm rectification.

Planning and Reporting

  • Plan preventive maintenance for all NE on a site-by-site basis.
  • Prepare and submit reports of daily activities to BSS managers.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Conduct job training for BSS technicians and riggers.
  • Share knowledge with team members.

Organizational Relations

  • Coordinate with the rigger team for proper management of the BTS installation phase.
  • Work with the power team to arrange necessary power connections for all BSS equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Microwave transmission team for integration of NE with BSC.
  • Coordinate with IPO and RF teams.
  • Communicate with third-party transport companies for inbound equipment location updates.
  • Work with other departments as needed to ensure timely completion of tasks.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics, Computer Science & Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience (1 year for master's degree holders).
  • Excellent knowledge of IP technology; CCNA/CCNP certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GSM/WCDMA/LTE wireless network architecture.
  • Fluent in one of the local languages (Dari, Pashto) and English (written and spoken).
  • Self-motivated learner with the ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent communication skills.
  • Integrity and honesty in professional conduct.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and troubleshoot issues effectively.
  • Willingness to travel to other provinces and work additional hours.
  • Adherence to company rules and policies.
