Job Description

Position: Community Health Promotion Assistant (CHPA)
Location: IRC Supported BPHS Health Facilities

Role Purpose

The Community Health Promotion Assistant (CHPA) will supervise community-level health activities and support Community Health Workers (CHWs) to enhance health promotion and disease prevention efforts within the catchment population.

General Duties

  • Supervise all community-level health activities, including disease surveillance, outbreak response, and community meetings.
  • Assist in training, supporting, and supervising CHWs.
  • Promote collaboration between health facilities and the community, establishing referral pathways.
  • Support communities in identifying and addressing their health needs.

Specific Duties

CHWs Training

  • Assist in practical training during CHW training courses.
  • Provide on-the-job mentoring and monthly in-service training to CHWs.
  • Review and evaluate CHW performance, organizing refresher courses as needed.

Supportive Supervision

  • Assist health facility staff in planning community health programs.
  • Implement, supervise, monitor, and evaluate community health program activities.
  • Identify and report any issues affecting program objectives to the health facility head.
  • Guide CHWs in developing and implementing action plans.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with CHWs to address community-level challenges.
  • Regularly visit CHWs in their communities to assess and support their work.
  • Compile demographic data from CHWs, ensuring accuracy and validity.

Health Management Information System

  • Supervise the quality of pictorial registers and community maps maintained by CHWs.
  • Ensure completion of Monthly Activity Reports (MARs) by CHWs.
  • Consolidate MARs and assist in preparing monthly reports for health facility management.
  • Monitor community health status using information from village health committees.

Facility Community Collaboration

  • Assist in forming community health committees (Shura-e-Sehie).
  • Provide orientation sessions on health topics to community Shura members.
  • Implement community-based health activities based on guidelines.
  • Provide timely support and feedback from communities to health facility management.

Job Requirements

  • Qualifications: Professional qualification as a Nurse, Community Health Worker, or Midwife with experience in health promotion and training.
  • Experience: 1-2 years in community mobilization and coordination to enhance community participation.
  • Skills:
    • Self-motivated with strong persuasion and relationship-building skills.
    • Enthusiastic about traveling for training sessions.
    • Strong communication and reporting skills.
    • Fluency in Pashto, Dari, and English.
    • Proficient in computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, and internet).
