Job Description: Audit Officer
Job Summary
The Audit Officer will perform audit work in accordance with department and bank’s professional standards and complete assignments in an efficient manner with sufficient detail to ensure accurate and thorough coverage. He/she is co-responsible for assessing the adequacy of the control environment, conformance to bank’s standards, compliance with terms & regulations, financial soundness, and proper application of regulations and procedures across all operational and technology activities of the Bank (the Head Office and branches).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform financial and operational audits of the Bank's businesses and operations, suggesting improvements to strengthen overall governance mechanisms.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external guidelines and policies of the bank, as well as legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
- Review DAB's regulations concerning the Bank's business, operations, and products to maintain knowledge of prevailing standards needed to perform audits.
- Recommend internal audit policies, procedures, and programs in line with international auditing, accounting, and other professional practices, standards, and guidelines.
- Identify risks, recommend controls, and design/perform audit procedures to test the effectiveness of established policies, procedures, and processes.
- Gain comprehensive knowledge of operation and technology controls, regulatory compliance requirements, and compliance with internal audit and risk management policies and procedures.
- Evaluate and propose corrective measures designed to strengthen internal controls, operational policies and procedures, and address weaknesses identified in audits.
- Prepare a plan prior to commencing each audit, encompassing scope, effort estimation, job allocation, sampling, audit procedures, timelines, and other details as required by the Internal Audit Manual.
- Conduct entrance meetings with the auditee, interview appropriate personnel, accumulate, verify, and analyze available data required for the assignment, identifying existing or potential problem areas; conduct exit meetings with the auditee.
- Supervise audits/other assignments professionally in accordance with approved plans and internal audit methodology as per the Internal Audit manual.
- Manage the work of audit team members while discharging the duties of an individual auditor in any assignment.
- Discuss internal audit findings with the concerned departmental head before submitting the final report to the relevant authorities.
- Report on audit findings by drafting suitable audit reports and presentations on key control deficiencies, non-compliance with procedures, and recommending corrective actions to improve operational efficiency cost-effectively.
- Ensure the audit report is reviewed, finalized, and issued as per the agreed timeline.
- Maintain the audit working paper file/permanent file as per the Bank’s Internal Guidelines.
- Assist in following up on agreed audit recommendations logged from previous audits to ensure timely compliance/clearance.
- Identify factors causing deficient conditions and recommend actions to improve those conditions.
- Accumulate data, maintain proper and confidential filing/records, and prepare reports on audit missions and other assigned tasks.
- Assist the team leader in analyzing and determining risk levels in reports by reviewing the risk assessment tool.
- Update audit programs and techniques as required based on developments in the auditee business, best practices, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Stay informed of recent developments, including risks, financial and compliance issues, and train team members on both professional and technical matters.
- Ensure independence and objectivity are maintained during audits, maintaining confidentiality of bank secrets.
- Be aware of internal audit and bank's policies, charter, relevant laws, regulations, international standards, and the bank's strategic plan.
- Ensure adherence to ethical codes of conduct and policies within the audited area, in compliance with laws and professional standards of internal auditing.
- Follow instructions from the internal audit team leader to establish discipline and effectiveness in auditing activities.
- Perform all tasks assigned by the CIA, deputy, and team leader in light of the laws, regulations, and objectives of Afghan United Bank.
Job Requirements
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Auditing, or Business.
- Work Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in the auditing field.
- Knowledge: Understanding of bank operations in various fields.
- Skills:
- Fluent communication skills (written and verbal) in Afghan local languages and English.
- Strong analytical and diagnostic skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office packages.
- Flexibility regarding travel to branches.
- Accuracy, professionalism, and objectivity in assigned audit tasks.
