Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. Alongside the Ministry of Public Health, AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive Health since its inception. AFGA is a fully accredited member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and an important partner of UNFPA.
A committed team of more than 600 experts are working in 11 provinces of Afghanistan to achieve AFGA goals and objectives. AFGA provides health services to the most vulnerable and hard to reach communities through over 140 service delivery points.
About Hospital:
AFGA is in the process of establishment of a 20-bed hospital in Kabul, aimed at providing quality Reproductive Health services to mothers and newborns. The hospital will be fully equipped with modern medical equipment, facilities and staffed by experts.
As part of a long-term development plan, hospital services will continuously expand, serving as the central hub for AFGA outreach and small Service Delivery Points (SDPs) to refer patients needing advanced care. The hospital will adhere to national and international standards for patient safety and quality service, ensuring it meets the needs of target communities.
Job Description: Midwife
Job Summary
The responsibility of the midwife will be to attend normal deliveries and perform all duties related to Inpatient Department (IPD) and Outpatient Department (OPD).
Responsibilities
- Provide prenatal care to mothers, including:
- Conducting routine checkups.
- Ordering and interpreting lab tests.
- Monitoring the health and development of the fetus in consultation with the gynecologist.
- Attend to normal deliveries and provide family guidance services to patients at the hospital.
- Follow up on patient services, including:
- Monitoring vital signs.
- Following doctor's orders and dressing wounds.
- Provide postpartum care, including:
- Monitoring the mother's recovery.
- Providing breastfeeding support.
- Assessing the health of the newborn.
- Identify and respond to complications or high-risk situations during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, collaborating with obstetricians when necessary.
- Educate and counsel patients on:
- Pregnancy.
- Childbirth.
- Newborn care.
- Family planning and other women's health topics.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records for all patients according to HMIS tools.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team, including nurses, pediatricians, and social workers, to coordinate comprehensive care.
- Potentially perform outpatient procedures, such as cervical exams and collecting lab specimens.
- Collect data and information on patients in IPD and OPD under follow-up care.
- Actively participate in planning capacity building in the hospital.
- Perform night duty according to the schedule.
- Obey all hospital rules and disciplines.
- Participate in morning reports and perform other official duties assigned by the hospital.
- Participate in the implementation of all standards, especially in gynecology.
- Evaluate all standards and prepare action plans for improvement.
- Responsible for registering clients.
- Respect all rules and regulations of the AFGA and adhere to the safeguarding policy.
- Report to the nursing manager.
Job Requirements
- Education: Graduated from a recognized midwifery institute.
- Experience: 3-5 years of working experience as a practicing midwife, providing care during antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn periods. Experience in a hospital or clinic setting is preferred.
- Training: Should have received training in (BEmNOC, CmNOC, NBC, HMIS, IP, FP, PAC).
- Skills:
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Kindness and honesty.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
