Job Description: System Officer
Job Summary
The System Officer is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and core IT infrastructure. This role involves active participation in technical research and development to support ongoing innovation and improvement of the infrastructure environment. The System Officer ensures that all systems—hardware, operating systems, software, and related procedures—are aligned with the organization’s policies, standards, and strategic objectives.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- IT Infrastructure Management: Manage and support the organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, networks, and security tools.
- Server Installation: Install and rebuild servers, configuring hardware, peripherals, services, directories, storage, and system settings in line with operational and project requirements.
- Critical Applications Support: Install and configure systems that support critical infrastructure applications such as Core Banking Systems (CBS) and E-Banking platforms.
- Operating System Administration: Administer Oracle Solaris operating systems, including installation, patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- WebLogic Server Management: Install, configure, and manage Oracle WebLogic Server environments to support enterprise applications.
- System Maintenance: Apply operating system patches and upgrades regularly; update administrative tools and utilities; and configure or add new services as needed.
- Standardization: Develop and maintain standardized installation and configuration procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Backup Operations: Execute daily backup operations, ensuring successful backups of all required file systems and system data, while managing offsite storage and recovery processes.
- Performance Reporting: Prepare periodic performance and capacity reports to support proactive infrastructure planning.
- Resource Optimization: Perform continuous performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization, including configuration of CPU, memory, and disk partitions.
- Data Center Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and monitoring of data center environmental systems and infrastructure equipment.
- Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with vendors to resolve technical issues and ensure service continuity.
- Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Support: Provide 24/7 support for critical systems and respond to high-impact incidents as needed.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or System Administration.
- Experience: 3-5 years of database, network administration, or system administration experience.
- Certifications: System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network-related fields are a plus.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
- Experience with scripting and automation tools.
- IT Strategy Development: A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans.
- Best Practices: Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
